Love and Lessons
By: Sis. Tonya L. Bays
There seems to be a lack of love given to and received from the young people of today. This is partially demonstrated in the schools, the behaviors and broken families of today. Parents and adults, as we teach the younger generations the lessons of life; discipline, comittment, expectations, etc. remember to show love! There is so much hatred and hardness in the world. To counteract this, our children should learn the valuable lesson of the effects and benefits of love at home.
You might ask, "How can I show love with the difficult child?" Just look at ways that you feel loved by Jesus Christ. We go to him in prayer because we know He hears us. Hear your child. As we go throughout our daily lives we depend on Jesus to get us through. He's there for us. Be there for your child. Don't be so busy that you go a whole day without physically and mentally being there. Sometimes I can just look around and feel God's love. The trees, the stars, human life, miracles........Your child should be able to look around ,see, and feel your love. (A smile, dinner, hug, positive notes or words, etc)
The Bible says,” …but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord ”. I know children need discipline to learn lessons in life, but lets not forget to teach love in the home as the most valuable lesson. As Jesus has given the best example and although our love is no match for him, we should be striving to follow his example and if we, as Christians, dont teach love, our children may grow up with a worldly love, filled ,with hatred, unremorseful or just uninterested in showing love and kindness to others. These ungodly traits have their consequences. So if you havent done so give your child a hug and show love in your lessons, in spite of their faults, as Christ has so loved us!
God Be With You Always!
